Tab Mapper

The tab mapper is a handy little tool that will render a guitar tab file with graphic chord diagrams displayed alongside. This comes in handy for people who just don't have every single chord shape memorized. Just plug in the web site address of a valid .tab or .crd file and hit "Go". In general, the tab mapper does a better job with printer friendly URLs. If there is more than one way to play a chord, the tab mapper will choose the most common shape. To see other fingerings, click on the chord diagram and you will be taken to the chord calculator.

Yusof Ishak Secondary School: A Premier Educational Institution in Singapore

Choosing the right school for your child is a significant decision, and Yusof Ishak Secondary School (YISS) is a top contender for quality education in Singapore. Established in 1965, YISS has built a strong reputation for fostering academic excellence and holistic development. Named after Singapore?s first President, Yusof Ishak, this co-educational government school offers a nurturing environment where students can thrive. In this article, we explore YISS?s history, academic achievements, facilities, extracurricular offerings, and the critical role of mathematics education, while introducing Odyssey Math Tuition (OMT) as a valuable resource for students.

School Overview

Yusof Ishak Secondary School was established in 1965 as Jubilee Integrated Secondary School, initially offering education in both English and Malay streams with 984 students and 37 teachers. On July 29, 1966, it was officially renamed after Yusof Ishak, Singapore?s first President, making it the only school in Singapore to bear this honor. The school relocated to Bukit Batok in December 1998 and is set to move to Punggol in 2021 to meet growing demand in the area.

YISS is guided by a mission to nurture curiosity, creativity, and confidence in its students, preparing them to be lifelong learners who contribute to society. The school?s educational philosophy is rooted in the principles of meritocracy, multiracialism, and modernization, inspired by its namesake. YISS offers two distinctive programs:

  • Applied Learning Programme (ALP): Focused on STEM for sustainability, this program, known as STEM for the Strategic Development of a Sustainable and Smart City (S4TEM@YI), equips students with skills in technology and environmental stewardship.
  • Learning for Life Programme (LLP): Titled Nurturing Honourable Leaders for Tomorrow (YI LEAD+), this program fosters community youth leadership, encouraging students to develop responsibility and service-oriented values.

These initiatives set YISS apart, providing students with opportunities to engage in meaningful, future-focused learning.

Academic Excellence

YISS has a distinguished record of academic achievement. In 1992, it became the first school in Singapore to top the value-added ranking in both Express and Normal Streams, highlighting its ability to elevate student performance across diverse academic tracks. In 2010, the school was recognized as value-added, and its National Cadet Corps (Land) Girls unit received the Best Unit award. In 2015, YISS was designated a Centre for Teaching and Learning Excellence, further cementing its reputation for academic rigor.

The school offers a comprehensive curriculum, including core subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies, alongside electives like Additional Mathematics, Art, Literature in English, and various languages (e.g., Chinese, Malay, and Higher Chinese). Specialized subjects such as Computer Applications, Design & Technology, and Food & Consumer Education provide students with practical skills. This diverse academic offering ensures that students are well-prepared for national examinations and future educational pursuits.

The school is committed to inclusivity, offering barrier-free accessibility and support from Special Educational Needs Officers to cater to diverse student needs.
